Having led the acquisition of Map of Medicine from UCL Biomedica my role is to guide strategy and ensure the business benefits from the opportunities offered by its new ownership.

I have been in medical and academic publishing since the 1970s at Oxford University Press, Blackwell Science and since 2001 at Taylor and Francis where I was Managing Director of the Journals division.

In addition to my role with the Map of Medicine, I was previously on the Informa Healthcare Board and have non-executive directorships with several other companies.

I first came across the Map in 2003 when I was asked to turn the Map from a research prototype into a commercial product. Since September 2006 I have been responsible for day to day management of the team working across content development, product development, sales, marketing, implementation and support.

Previously I founded a consultancy in 1992 which merged to become Oyster Partners Ltd in 1998 where I was Chief Technology Officer. Oyster was acquired by Framfab AB in May 2005 and is now part of LBI International AB.

Dr Enone Honeyman

Clinical Lead

I am responsible for bringing a clinical view to content and product development, and for supporting the implementation team. Much of my time is dedicated to engaging with frontline healthcare professionals, to ensure their views and experiences continue to shape and improve the Map.

Before joining the Map team in 2004, I worked as a psychiatrist in the NHS for almost a decade, experiencing first hand the many challenges facing clinicians every day. Previously, after qualifying in South Africa, I worked as a GP in Cape Town and then spent a year in community paediatrics in London, which sparked my interest to specialise in psychiatry.

Mark Varian

Sales and Marketing Director

I've been responsible for building and sustaining rapid long term growth for new, small and large medically driven brands in both the Pharmaceutical and Healthcare sectors. In previous roles at GlaxoSmithKline I led a number of UK, European and International teams and enjoyed working in a dynamic environment.

Since joining the Map of Medicine in February 07, new communication programmes and materials for clinical engagement have been successfully tested. The opportunity now is for us to work with local healthcare communities and specialist clinical networks in the UK and other markets in order to make the Map available widely.

Our history

The Map of Medicine originated as the inspiration of the combination of medical entrepreneur Mike Stein and Owen Epstein, a London based practicing NHS gastroenterologist. The concept was developed in partnership with University College London and The Royal Free Hampstead NHS Trust in 2001.

As the demand for the Map of Medicine grew, the team recognised the need to achieve an international presence and in June 2005, the Map of Medicine was acquired by Informa plc.  Three years later, in April 2008, the Map of Medicine has been acquired by Hearst Corporation enabling it to strengthen its portfolio. Hearst is market leader in evidence-based clinical information in the USA, operating in over 1300 hospitals.
