Broad Content Coverage
"the Map of Medicine... provides us with guidelines for treatment for specific complaints"
Yvonne Jordan
Advanced Nurse Practitioner
Royal Gwent Hospital
The Map of Medicine currently includes clinical information from 28 specialties organised into 387 pathways, equivalent to over 6000 printed pages.
Pathways include clinical knowledge across the patient journey from diagnosis to treatment, providing a single resource across primary and secondary care settings.
Clinical topics currently covered are shown below, with new topics being added with each quarterly release. This comprehensive knowledge base is continually evolving, based on the feedback and contribution from doctors, nurses and allied health professionals.
Development plan
The expansion of the Map is an ongoing process, with new pathways and additional content being included every 3 months. It is estimated that there will be over 400 pathways in the Map by the end of 2007, increasing to 500 pathways by the end of 2008. Our current pipeline of new and updated content can be viewed here, the majority of which is expected to be delivered by July 2007.
Images
During 2007, medical images will continue to be added to Map of Medicine pathways as an additional resource for clinicians. Currently there are approximately 530 images within the Infectious Diseases, Dermatology, Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Thoracic Medicine, Obstertrics and Gynaecology, Oncology and Ophthalmology specialities and the Burns pathway. We welcome your feedback on the quality and suitability of the images as part of our continuous review of content.
Peer review
All content is peer reviewed by practicing clinicians - if you would like to join our team of reviewers or become a contributing fellow please use the link below.
