Localisation Methodology
The Map of Medicine provides evidence based care pathways as an easy to use knowledge resource for clinical users. However, we realise that there are very valid reasons to localise these pathways.
Our localisation methodology can be broken down into these 5 stages:
Pre-Workshop
Before discussing specific clinical changes to a care pathway, it is necessary to ensure that all participants are adequately prepared.
Before attending a clinical localisation workshop, all participants need to be familiar with the Map of Medicine and the specific pathway under review.
This allows the clinical localisation workshop to be focused and efficient for all participants.
Workshop
Depending on the size of the pathway being reviewed, one or more clinical localisation workshops are undertaken where all participants do a detailed review of each step of the patient journey and identify any changes that should be made to reflect local practices.
At this stage, there should be time for reflection to ensure that patient outcomes are the key reason for undertaking changes to the evidence based pathway.
Development
Once changes have been agreed, personnel who are trained on using the Map Management Suite update the pathway in question. These changes are then submitted for review to clinically qualified personnel.
Review
Before any changes can go for final clinical approval, they must be reviewed and approved by at least 2 clinical specialists.
We find that , at this stage, there are normally some further edits that take into account local clinically accepted best practice.
Approval
Following acceptance of the updated pathway by all clinical reviewers, the pathway is submitted for clinical approval. We generally utilise existing clinical governance structures and processes for this stage. At least 2 clinical approvers need to review and approve the updated pathway.
At this stage, medico-legal responsibility for the pathway passes from the Map of Medicine to the local organisation.
After a pathway has been approved, a regular publishing schedule will pick up the updated pathway and publish it for all Map of Medicine users to view it.
Our team
Our implementation team is happy to help organisations set up localisation projects and can advise you on how to get a project up and running. We can also facilitate workshops or run the entire project for you.
